A biological control product created with marine bacterial mixtures against the plant parasitic root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. The risks carried by chemicals used against pests in agriculture affect ecosystem and public health and cause economic losses. The damage caused by plant parasitic nematodes in the world with 12.3% yield loss per year is 100 billion US dollars. Therefore, products targeting biological control agents that do not cause residue and resistance problems in agriculture are of great importance. The development of resistance caused by the use of chemicals against pests in order to protect/increase agricultural production and the damages it causes on the environment and human health force mankind to develop biological control methods as alternatives and these methods are gaining importance day by day.
GA-NEMATOD was developed within the scope of the project titled "Development of Marine Bacterial Isolates as Antinematode Bioformulas" carried out within the Istanbul Technopolis. GA-NEMATOD includes a bioformulation developed with domestic resources with high added value and international competitive potential, offering advantages to agricultural production for the use of bacterial isolates isolated from Turkish Seas against root-knot nematode meloidogyne incognita. GA-NEMATOD is an alternative to high-cost imported chemical products, environmentally and human-friendly, and is aimed at good agricultural practices and organic farming that support soil fertility.
STUDY CASE
Successful results were obtained in the preliminary trial studies conducted in areas with nematode problems in the Antalya region. Official trials are planned for licensing. There is no local, licensed biological formulation used against nematode pests developed using adapted marine bacterial isolates in our country.
These products, which are completely developed domestically, offer value in terms of access to products with high added value and export potential, compared to imported chemical products on the market for the same purpose in terms of usage efficiency and economy. BİYOTEK has the know-how and production technology for production in case the licensing of 15 products by the Ministry is ensured.
